Today we had the first really heavy rain since the pipe was put in the ground. You can see it in this radar image:

It rained very hard for about 30 minutes. Maybe an inch of rain, maybe more. It had rained for about an hour before the heavy rain arrived (the red-yellow band) and it is still raining a bit.

Here is that personal weather station again. As I write this there is no precip data, but I am sure there will be shortly.

The next two photos are the creek flowing into the new pipe. It's quite a flow, and I am sure this would have overwhelmed the one 24" pipe.

Here are four shots of the outflow end of the new pipe. The water is coming out of the pipe with a lot of velocity and is making quite a noise on all the rock. I can see why the rock is as large as it is. If anything we could maybe use more of the really large stuff!

So I think we avoided our first short term flood this morning.

The weather speculators are calling for several days of sun starting tomorrow, and I hope this will be enough to dry things out and allow the rest of the work to be completed and the landscaping finished. A lot more riprap is needed at the head end of the pipe, all of the joints inside have to be sealed with hydro-cement, and the riprap has to be grouted on both ends of the pipe.
